KIPEPS / YAKA

Founded in 2021, Kipeps is a distributor of delicatessen products from Africa and the Caribbean, processed in Europe or Africa. Its suppliers are based in France, Belgium and a number of countries in West and Central Africa. Over the years, Kipeps has managed to place some of its 300-plus products in Belgian top places such as Rob Gourmet, Freshmed, The Africa Museum, Pairi Daiza... Kipeps, taken from "kipepeo", which means butterfly in Swahili, symbolises an ongoing metamorphosis towards realising the potential of the talents we promote. Africa has the potential to feed itself and provide for a large part of the world. Kipeps expresses the idea of realising this potential, of the take-off and growth of the industry, particularly the agri-food industry, on the continent. The idea for Kipeps came from the realisation that it is almost impossible to find African products in shops outside 'community' areas. After all, many shops have a 'world' section stocked with Asian and sometimes South American products... Apart from moambe, a sauce made from crushed palm nuts, and pondu (saka-saka), a dish made from cassava leaves, which have been available in Belgium since the 1970s. It was then that the desire arose to introduce Belgian food explorers to the new flavours of Africa through a very specialised selection of products.
